After your PhD-phase you can remain an ICO member, to stay connected to the network and to help ICO build a solid training programme for its PhD members. Also, as junior researcher being an associate fellow you are welcome to join the ICO courses as a participant.
From associate fellow you can grow on to become either a fellows, senior fellow, and after retirement you can stay on as emeritus fellow. Former ICO PhD’s with a research appointment outside of one of ICO’s universities can join us as an ICO Alumnus.
1. Associate fellow
An associate fellow holds an appointment at one of the ICO universities (for at least 0.1 FTE) , and is employed in a faculty or institute participating in ICO, and should hold a doctorate.
The associate fellow is nominated to become ICO member by a senior fellow. From the associate fellowship, one can progress to fellow and senior fellow, but not necessarily. Associate fellows are welcome to participate in or organise ICO Courses. Also are they welcome to play a role in ICO events.
2. Fellow
A fellow holds an appointment at one of the ICO universities, and is employed in a faculty or institute participating in ICO, and should hold a doctorate. A fellow meets the publication requirement set by ICO. ICO also expects them to play an active role within ICO: once every four years they attend the NSS as discussant or chair, or have a role in the organisation of ICO education in either the regular ICO programme or the Spring Schools.
3. Senior Fellow
A senior fellow meets the same requirements as a fellow, supplemented by participation as a (co)promotor in at least three successfully completed PhD trajectories.
4. Emeritus fellow
An emeritus fellow is a former fellow (associate fellow, fellow or senior fellow) with emeritus status and a 0-appointment/hospitality appointment with IUS promovendi at an ICO-affiliated university.
5. ICO Alumnus
ICO alumni are former ICO PhDs with a research appointment outside of the with ICO affiliated universities. Alumni will remain connected to the ICO network through the ICO newsletter, and have access to the National Spring School, or share their expertise with current ICO PhDs as tutor in ICO courses.
ICO Fellows (including senior, associate and emeritus fellows)
Are you employed at a faculty or institute of a university that participates in ICO? You are welcome to register as ICO fellow. Please contact the ICO Governing Board member of your university to apply for membership and fill in the registration request form for ICO Fellows: https://forms.uu.nl/universiteitutrecht/ICO_FellowRegistration
This form can also be used to inform us on new developments which leads to an upgrade to ICO fellow or senior fellow, or to change your registration into emeritus fellow.
On the basis of the received information we will let you know in due time what membership will apply to your situation.
ICO Alumnus
In case you are not employed at one of ICO’s affiliated universities you can stay connected als ICO Alumnus.
