New report on the Gender Gap in STEM Education

I am excited to announce the release of a new report on the Gender Gap in STEM Education, which I co-authored for the European Commission. The authors of this report are Maria Evagorou (University of Nicosia/Cyprus), Blanca Puig Mauriz (University of Santiago de Compostela/Spain, Dury Bayram (Eindhoven University of Technology /The Netherlands, and Hedvika Janečková (PPMI/Lithuania). 

Despite significant progress, women in Europe remain under-represented in STEM fields. This report consolidates research findings, policy analysis, and best practices to address this issue. This comprehensive report: 

  • Analyzes the individual, contextual, and institutional factors contributing to the gender gap in STEM education. 
  • Identifies effective strategies and interventions that have successfully enhanced girls’ interest, participation, and persistence in STEM. 
  • Provides recommendations for policymakers and educators to tackle systemic barriers and foster a sustained increase in girls’ participation in STEM fields.
