Sevinç Gökşen (University of Amsterdam) will defend the thesis ‘Collaborative learning tasks to enhance students’ mathematical modelling proficiency’. Supervisor is Prof. C.A.M. van Boxtel. The co-supervisor is Dr D.R. Pik.
In this dissertation we have designed and evaluated various mathematical modelling tasks and collaborative modelling tasks for use in lower secondary education. The implementation of collaborative learning tasks for novice modellers in heterogeneous groups, accompanied by a debriefing and focus on assumption making, is identified as a promising approach for the teaching practice.

Sevinç Gökşen promoveert op het proefschrift: ‘Collaborative learning tasks to enhance students’ mathematical modelling proficiency’. Promotor is prof. dr. C.A.M. van Boxtel. Copromotor is dr. D.R. Pik.
In deze dissertatie hebben we diverse wiskundige modelleertaken en groepsopdrachten voor modelleren ontworpen en geëvalueerd voor gebruik in de onderbouw van het voortgezet onderwijs (HAVO/VWO). De inzet van groepsopdrachten voor modelleren in heterogene groepen, in combinatie met een nabespreking en focus op het maken van aannames, komt naar voren als een veelbelovende aanpak voor de onderwijspraktijk.
